Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Renee at It’s Book Talk. Throwback Thursday was designed as an opportunity to share old favorites as well as older books in our TBR. As I started reviewing on Goodreads long before I started my blog, it seemed a great way of sharing my earlier reviews (which I hope have improved since the early days).
So this week I’m revisiting Crash & Burn by Lisa Gardner – first reviewed in February 2015.
My name is Nicky Frank.
I’m in hospital, afraid. All I can think about is Vero. I have to save her but I can’t find her. She’s just a little girl. The man by my bed tells me we’re married and there is no Vero. He says that six months ago I suffered a brain injury, that I have dramatic mood swings and large gaps in my memory. I get angry and I drink. All of which explains the car crash that put me here.
Now a Sergeant Wyatt Foster has questions about the accident. He has concerns about my husband. And he’s worried about a missing girl. He would like to know what happened to me. So would I.
This is my life. Watch me crash and burn.
My Review
Wow, this was a real page turner and the blurb that suggested things were not always as they seemed was not an under statement.
When Nicole Frank survives a near fatal car crash, her first main concern is finding Vero. What soon becomes the prime concern for the investigating officers is not only where but exactly who is Vero? I was not expecting the answer and the surprises/shocks continued until the end.
It is impossible not to be drawn into the plot from the beginning as you seek to found out exactly what the relationship is between Nicky and her husband. Is she a delusional innocent victim, or a colluding wife with a secret. Is Thomas a controlling abusive husband, or an innocent man striving to cope with a sick wife and her paranoia’s. As the plot develops you find yourself jumping from one view to another, never really sure what the truth is. Combined with this is the need to know who is Vero and exactly what happened to her.
Running alongside the investigation is the blossoming relationship between Sergeant Wyatt Foster and Tessa Leonia a former State Police officer and investigator for Northledge Investigations who also has a connection to the case. Their relationship is overshadowed by the fact that Tessa has secrets of her own she wants to stay hidden.
I really enjoyed this book, just when you think you’ve got things figured out, everything changes again, it was gripping and full of surprises, that kept on coming.
I received an ARC via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I love Lisa Gardner, great pick Jill!!

Thanks Emma, it’s a great way of reminding myself of some forgotten authors as well.
